makes me wonder why we have to deal with crap threads like this again and again.... you should check that BEFORE.

i did that often enough. use another skin and be happy. i think i know well enough how to test a skin in terms of performance.

do that. I´m interested what you want to tell me.

Well as I'm the one that started this thread and have been nothing but civil... I find this response particularly uncivil. Don't hold me accountable to how one person responds in the thread I created.

I sympathise with you but I was surprised to hear you take the stance of "There's nothing wrong with it". You might technically be right but if there are features I can disable etc that are using the CPU constantly then I'll do that. A bit of explanation as to what is going on in the background would be good. If it's something happening that you can't turn off, fine, maybe make this toggle-able in a later update?

Another thing, why is no one responding to my questions? You're all quick to reply to the drama but my genuine questions are getting ignored.

sorry but it´s just too annoying to answer the same stuff again and again....
and investing some seconds with searching would have given you some answers.

there ´s nothing we have to look into so this thread is pointless.

For the record I did search.

The first thing I see in this thread is a guy innocently asking for advice and help and getting sarcastic responses from people. This isn't the same as my issue either, in fact not even close.

Again not my issue he's complaining about a frame rate issue which I do not have. My frame rates are generally solid. They only get crap after leaving XBMC on for a long time but restarting it fixes it.

Also imolaavant PM'd me with his findings (he was talking about telling me not you) and it's quite interesting, I don't know if there's any mileage in it but you can probably understand it easier than me.

Quote:Since no one asked and no one volunteered their setups it's hard to tell if this is a platform specific issue; apparently you've determined that it's not processor specific. Assuming you're on a Windows box:

If you run ProcessMonitor and filter by xbmc.exe you'll probably notice a bunch of buffer overflow errors when the application accesses textures.xbt - I do. If you swap out the textures.xbt file from another skin, the error goes away and the CPU usage drops significantly, but since you're using a different texture file, some screens will not display as intended.

I'm not sure how to extract xbt files, but the next logical test would be to get your hands on the files in textures.xbt and repack them to see if the issue improves.

I know he didn't want to share his findings but this could help.

You all seem rather frustrated and respond to everyone in the same manner, if you don't want to help me then say that instead of making out I've done something wrong when I'm just trying to get a bit of support from what I thought was a friendly community.

that won´t help you at all, testing performance by exchanging textures.xbt isn´t worth anything.
i already offered my advice: if the skin doesn´t perform well enough for you on a clean install then change the skin. period.
there´s nothing frustrated about that, it ´s the only reasonable advice I can give you. you seem to have a hard time understanding that though.

Well no, I really don't. Aeon Nox is a good skin and I'm happy to use it even in its current CPU hogging state. I only really posted to make you guys aware of it and maybe come to a solution. I didn't expect the backlash I've received on here at all.

I've asked questions like what is the skin doing when idle and got nothing. I've disabled RSS, I've disabled any script I could, like the widget script. It all has made no difference. People here have said that it's using their CPU at 3% constantly too, so why? What is it doing?

Just did some testing this weekend.

Status XBMC minimized, idle ...

Resource Monitor CPU --> xbmc.exe

Confluence --> 0 ... 1 %
Aeon Nox --> 0 ... 3 %
Diffuse --> 0 ... 2 %
Xperience1080 --> 0 ... 4 %

Tested on my Notebook wit a CPU Intel Dual Core 2.2GhZ ( --> nothing really special )

people have 3% because their cpu is superior ( i now have 3-5% with a I5, before i had 10-20% with a first-gen c2duo.
and 10% -20% is perfectly fine. XBMC isn´t coded for idling because the XBMC gui constantly gets rendered.

you really shouldn´t be that light-skinned. nobody attacked you personally, we just gave our opinion.

So why is it when I set it as confluence I have the same result as butchabay but when I set Aeon Nox it's a consistent 20%+?

I'm just trying to understand the differences.

because Nox is full of malware. you´re part of our botnet now.

i do not understand because lots of people are "obsessed" from the cpu usage. i think that if the pc works fine, and xbmc run smooth 10%, 20% or 50% of cpu usage is not a big problem. maybe someone think that the machine could burn?
here two screenshot from my zotac id61 (intel Celeron 867 1.3 GHz Dual-Core) tha is not a thunderbolt but works fine for me.

aeon nox

confluence

cpu usage, when idle, it goes from 20% to 40%.

That's fine but for me it fluctuates up and down spiking constantly. Put confluence on, and it's more stable and knows when you alt tab to stop using CPU.

I'm going to video it later to show you guys how bad it is.

Using GlassNox (mod from Aeon Nox) my CPU is from 7% to 13% in IDLE so I can't really complain (under Windows 8). And my HTPC has an Atom D2700 CPU (Zotac ZBox ID80) ... so not so powerfull Smile
