I used to use "T" to turn off subtitles in lower versions of XBMC, but for some reason "T" doesn't work in Frodo

I have the same problem. Pressing T only brings up the download subtitles add on. I have to manually turn them off through the audio options. Does anyone have a solution to this?

T works for me to show or disable subtitle. Check if your keyboard.xml file contains <t>ShowSubtitles</t>.
