Linux Flooded xbmc.log - ERROR: CAESinkALSA::HandleError(snd_pcm_writei(2)) - snd_pcm_write

Hello,

So, I played areound a bit yesterday, and switched my ION1 HTPC with my ION2 Server,
so now i have a ION2 HTPC.
And with the exception of a no sound issue efter the second reboot, wich was due to the ubuntu SSD issues, that the desktop is started before the system is actually done,
everything seemed fine.

So i vent to bed, and now today, i was going to continue configuring everything to my hearts content.
But i noticed an issue.

the log starts at:

And ends at:

so in 13½ hours, it has generated this logfile, and 99.9% of it contains this:

so, I deleted the log, im not putting 47Gb on pastebin, and rebooted.
And it seems to not happen currently, but I am still testing way, it might be because the receiver was shut down, and xbmc didnt like that?

Installed using:
xbmcbuntu-12.00.Intel-NVIDIA.iso

$ uname -a

yes, the system has after install been updated to Raring.

Will update with more info if I am able to reproduce this flooding of the log.

Any updates on this? I have the same issue. Do you have an .asoundrc file? What audio sink is chosen in your audio preferences? Good luck.

Hello to the XBMC community,

first of all, thank you very much for this powerful open-source Solution for mediacenters ! XBMC changed my life :-)

However, since I have upgraded my system to Frodo, I'm encountering some issues with the new XBMC Audio Engine & ALSA. It seems to be the same problem than marix but on a different hardware.
I am running an AMD E-450 APU and Ubuntu/Linux 12.04. (FYI, I'm directly running XBMC from lightdm and I have removed everything concerning PulseAudio. Nothing should interfere with my sound card)

I've have recently upgraded to Frodo. My sound is now lagging with short-cuts when I'm playing audio files. Moreover, my XBMC log is filled with many many lines like those when I'm playing a music or a video file :

I have investigated the problem: it only appears when I set the XBMC audio output device to "HD Audio Generic (both) HDMI0" or "Default (HD Audio Generic HDMI0)".
Setting the same option to "HDA ATI SB ALC887-VA Analog" or "HD-Audio Generic HDMI" solves the problem but the audio is not output through HDMI and Analog at the same time.

On Eden, everything worked perfectly. I can confirm that the bug appears on the following versions of Frodo:
- Frodo RC2 and RC3.
- Frodo from Git "master" branch (commit b50636f30ad0ef9b6894d9429de5d2b8f5678f6b from 2013-02-24)
- Frodo from Git "Frodo" branch (commit fa23eb624ce7d832167f17efcb2338da516aa8f5 from 2013-02-17)

Here are some useful information about my system (hope I didn't forget anything. Tell me otherwise).
* The output of uname command: Linux mediacenter 3.2.0-38-generic-pae #61-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 19 12:39:51 UTC 2013 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

Hehe - you made quite a mess with custom asound.conf and your semi removal of pulseaudio

Code:
sudo apt-get remove --purge pulseaudio libasound2-plugins libasound2-plugins:i386
sudo mv /etc/asound.conf /etc/schwachsinn.conf
mv ~/.asound ~/not-better.conf
sudo reboot

And to add for your amd - you should use an xvba enabled build.

Code:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:wsnipex/xbmc-xvba-frodo
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install xbmc-bin xbmc

Under video playback, select XVBA afterwards, disable VAAPI, disable VDPAU. In the Audio Settings disable LPCM, disable TrueHD, disable DTS-HD and thank AMD that they don't support this on linux.

I had the same problem an it was solved by switching System>Settings>Sound output>Sound device/Passthtough to: HDA Nvidia , ONK TC-NR609 on HDMI (You probably have another name depending on Receiver)
