Xbmc 12 (Frodo) slow video playback
#1
Hi

I have a video file that will not play well on Frodo.
The video is way slow but the audio is working fine.

This appears on both Windows 7 x64 and on Ios atv2

The file plays fine on VLC

Anyone else having problem with this file , and may know why?

My guess is your file is not support by the existing Frodo audio output configuration. You can find some tips on Frodo audio output configuration in this thread- Simplify XBMC configurations......

I refused to watch movie without bitstreaming HD audio!

Tried most of the configurations now i think, no change.
Downgraded to xbmc v11 on atv2 and now the file plays just fine. Upgraded to v13 nightly and it will not play.

Found more files that would now play and what i could find there was mkv x264 with AAC audio.

There is a known bug surrounding aac audio on atc2 frodo, can someone else confirm that this file will not play please.

It's likely audio setting, so more information on your audio chain is required, what connection type (HDMI/SPDIF)? and to where (AVR/TV)?

Post a debug log to pastebin showing you trying to play a file that causes problem.

In meantime you can try:

Audio Output: Analog
Speaker configuration: 2.0
Audio output device: Directsound - Huh?

where Huh? is whatever audio device you're using.

Hi
Some more info then, i´m running a atv2 4.4.4 , xbmc 12 connected using hdmi directly to tv.

I have changed the settings to use analog audio output.

Here is the log from playing the file i´m having problem with,
http://pastebin.com/HnqwcZk2

Now a strange thing, the file i uploaded in post 1 now works.
It´s just a cutdown version of the original, i downloaded it and now it works, so thats no longer a good testfile.

i placed the original on local disk, just to rule out smb problems, same thing, audio works fine , video is slow...

the original file name is Bering.Sea.Gold.S02E02.720p.HDTV.x264-BALLISTIC.mkv maby someone got it and could try if you get the same problem.

That is not the full debug log as it's missing stuff from the beginning.

Hi
Here is the full .log file http://pastebin.com/75eY0px1

Found one more file that will not play properly:
Gold.Rush.Alaska.S03E012.720p.HDTV.x264-BALLISTIC.mkv

I hav downloaded several testfiles with aac mkv h264 and they all play well. There must be something with just this two files, but what?

I'm more familiar with logs from Windows setups so don't think I can be much help here, so I've moved the thread into the iOS section since all your testing is on a atv2.

Can you confirm your present settings in Audio Output?

I had the same problem with winodws when i started this tread, but now it seems to be gone and working, so it´s just ios that is my problem now.

Audio settings is:
Audio output: analog (tried all settings here)
Speaker: 2.0
Boost: on
Output to all speakers: off
Audioo output device: default
Play Gui: Only....

Code:
579.10:05:46 T:154722304   DEBUG: FactoryCodec - Video: vtb - Opening
580.10:05:46 T:154722304   DEBUG: FactoryCodec - Video: vtb - Failed

VTB hardware decoder doesn't want that file - so it sfalling back to software decoding which results in broken playback. Post the mediainfo of that file.

Ok, i can buy that, it´s really slow so sw-decode sounds right.

Facing the same issues.
4.4.4 firmware
All files played back fine under eden.
Updated to Frodo and now a good percentage are stuttering and buffering to the point they are unwatchable.
Tried a fresh install of frodo, no change. Then removed preferences and frodo and started from scratch. Still the same.
Seem odd eden had no problems with playback but frodo does.

Kinda threadjacking here as the other guys problem is playing a file that's not supported by the hardware decoder. Your problem is most likely the new Audio Engine. I'm willing to bet that you only got stereo and your files have 5.1. Downsampling require more cpu with AE and therefore you get buffering.
Enable the "i have a AC3/DTS capable reciver" so the ATV2 sends the audio without downsampling and your problem will most likely be gone Wink

Did you findout why this file is not hw decoded?
Is it maby a bug, it's woking on xmbc 11,so with that version hw decoding mus have been supported.
