Sounds like a memory issue.
512M or 256M board?
Can you try increasing gpu_mem setting in config.txt?

Hi Dom,
thanks for the reply. The default value is gpu_mem=100, to what should I safely increase it?

Thanks for your input. I tried to set it to 128MB and 256MB and the problem is coming up much later but still coming. I disabled some not needed addons, I also disabled background fan art but couldn't find the option for the posters.

Thanks, but this didn't help. I tried new video with new subtitle and still after about 16 mins the subtitle went nuts and it does not recover.
Is there any log I can check for error?
Update: I just made another observation, the whole OSD seems to be unavailable after the subtitle crash. First time when I paused the movie after the crash the time display on the top showed up, but the characters were only rectangles. When I tried to open the lower OSD nothing showed up.
Now also the GUI is affected.

@robz
Can you try this build:

I don't think it will fix your problem, but it's worth trying.

Thanks for your post, and I tried it, but the problem is still coming up.
I checked the debugging log and nothing showed up.
I found this very old thread and the shots look like my problem: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=56885 , not really a solution though.

Posting a sample file that shows the problem may help.
Ideally one that fails quickly.
