Linux Unable to copy files from external USB Source
#1
I have an irritating problem in the way that I am unable to copy files from my external drives to my internal harddrive while using XBMCbuntu version 12.0. I have XBMCbuntu installed on HD1, and have another internal HD that consists of four ext4 partitions.

When I try to copy a file via the file manager, I either get the error "failed to copy at least one file - operation was aborted", or XBMC restarts itself completely (I cannot find a logic between what I try to copy and when it just gives me an error or restarts itself).

So far I have tried:
- Copying files via ftp (filezilla) - this works
- Watching a movie directly from the external HD - this works
- installing .zip files from the external drive - this works as well

My log files (both my log and crash log)
http://pastebin.com/K5vPSqgE
http://pastebin.com/5ecuaj7X

(btw, the file I was trying to copy was "300.mkv")

Anyone know how to fix this? I hope I am just being stupid and forgot to click a tickbox somewhere Confused

edit:when I try to copy files using File Manager PCmanFM, I get the error: "Error Creating directory: Permission denied"... Did I do something wrong during the mounting of these partitions?

Thanks!

edit: I was able to fix it by using the 777 command in terminal and thus changing the permission to "Anyone" for each partition/folder. This seems to be working so far... hopefully it keeps working after reboots.

So you had a permission issue and chose to open your drive up to all the world as a result. This will work, just beware of the consequences...
