VDR user feedback

I'm currently using MythTV 0.25 on Mythbuntu 12.04. It's okay, but not really what I'm looking for. I'm want more of a TV server, which MythTV is not. I am currently experiencing 5-6 seconds between channel changes due to the way MythTV handles live streams.. From reading the MythTV mailing list this has been a common gripe since, forever. So now I'm looking elsewhere.

- How is the responsiveness when using live tv features? What kind of lag are you seeing when changing channels?

- Does VDR play nice with the HDHomerun Prime? I've seen lots of information about the OTA version, but not the cable card version. This is a plus for MythTV. Setup was a snap with the Prime.

I tried TVheadend, but due to the way the DVB drivers read the HDHomerun feed it is not able to use the encrypted channels. Does VDR have this same limit?

For reference, my frontend is XBMC 12 obviously, i5 Mac mini 4GB Ram. My backend is a G540 Celeron, 4GB Ram.

Thanks for any feedback.

Channel changes or pretty swift, I'd say it's 1-2s depending on the channel type. It doesn't feel slow that I can assure you.

HDHomerun should work at least on ubuntu it seems to work just like any other dvb card, no problem for vdr then I'd say. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HDHomeRun

edit: made a short video so you can get an idea, I'm sure you can get the channel changes a tiny bit faster (I upped the buffer a bit to make sure I don't get audio drop outs) but it's certainly faster then 5-6s on myth.

The problem with VDR, at least in the US, is getting decent guide listings. Channel change and signal quality with the HDHomerun is really good. A new Dvbhdhomerun version was released a couple days ago which hopefully contains fixes for the Prime
If I have been of help, please add to my reputation as a way of saying thanks, it's free.
