Is the Mac Mini IR-Receiver usable for XBMC
#1
Hello again,

The thread subject says it all. I want to control my xbmc 12 with a logitech harmony.
I set it up as a mce keyboard. No function goes to the mac mini.

Is the ir-receiver of the mac mini (late 2012) usable for XBMC i.e. RC6 MCE ?

I can't find any Information about that.

The IR receiver does work but not as an MCE remote. You can use the harmony to learn commands from the mac mini remote (up, down etc) and send those to the mini. You can also get some application that allows you to set up multiple mac remotes on the one mac mini so you can increase the number of commands the mac mini recognises and program all of those into the harmony. I'm not sure of the details of that app, only seen it at a friends house. He set up about 8 mac remotes all programmed into the harmony to completely control his mini.

If you have a motherboard with CIR its possible to use the Mac Mini IR Modules Photo diode with a Capacitor and Resistor to make your own fully working eHome IR Receiver. As long as the photodiode is of the usual 38kHz iirc.
