Definitely the plan Smile

At the moment I am about halfway through the scraper and finishing off the GUI (mainly buttons and menu system). I'll try and post another video shortly of where I am upto.

@Ethryia thank you for the hard work and time you are putting into this.

Thanks a lot for the effort. Big Grin

Another quick update. I've almost completed the scraper which utilises both MusicBrainz and TheAudioDB.

Once I finish off the scraper and the artwork saving I will make an alpha version available, shouldn't be too far off.

Looks very nice! If you are interested in other sources to scrape from, I use the following sites to pull info from when updating it manually. Some have nice API's that make it really easy to programmatically add, others require more of a website scrape. These are the major sites I find of use.

MusicBrainz: https://musicbrainz.org/
Discogs: http://www.discogs.com/
FanArt.tv: https://fanart.tv/
AllMusicGuide: http://allmusic.com/
last.fm: http://www.last.fm/
TheAudioDB: http://www.theaudiodb.com/
RYM: http://rateyourmusic.com
BBC Music: http://www.bbc.co.uk/
The Echo Nest: http://www.echonest.com/
HTBackDrops: http://www.htbackdrops.org/v2/index.php
Wikipedia (for bios)
Amazon (for images)
Google (for images)

There are others I could list if you like as well, but they are more genre specific.

Thanks MaxCore. Unfortunately I only get limited time each day to work on it but every minute I get free is going into finishing Symphony.

Thanks for the list hiphutch, much appreciated. At the moment Symphony queries MusicBrainz and then calls the Fanart.tv and AudioDB API's using the MBID or ReleaseGroup ID, but I hope to greatly extend this to cover as many online resources as possible.

I was originally building this just for personal use but sometime after starting development I decided I would share it amongst the Kodi community if the interest was still there. Being a .Net developer I naturally gravitated toward WPF/C# which kinda limits availability on other platforms but once I finish work on Symphony I will most likely start on a second generation of Symphony with support for all OS's.

I thought I might share a quick video showing the current state of Symphony, in particular the scraper:

Symphony is nowhere near finished as there is still bugs to iron out as well as finishing off work on the GUI to a point I'm happy with. There is also a tonne of features I still want to add, eg. Music Video support (you will notice the button in the scraper window).

Saying that, I will hopefully be ready to throw an alpha out there for you guys to take a look at shortly. I'm aiming for, hopefully, early next week, if all goes well, as I just need to finish up a few things so you can actually use it. It is definitely in an alpha / pre-alpha state with bugs I'm still working out, but I would love your input so I can do this well and do this right.

Thanks for all the support and I will keep you all updated.

Thanks for the kind words Miss_80. I apologise for how unprofessional the GUI is, since I was developing Symphony purely for my own personal use originally, I wasn't too fussed about the GUI, hence the reason it looks rushed. Now I know there is interest out there, ideally I want to get a workable version out there ASAP so you guys can use it, then fix it from there and make it pretty.

Symphony has been built around my own expectations and requirements, so if anyone else has a vision of what a music scraper would do for them, please let me know.

I appreciate the patience and interest the Kodi/XBMC community has shown me while building Symphony and I really want to fill the void that the OP of this thread expressed.

Edit to add: I have received a few PM's regarding feature requests so I just wanted to re-iterate, keep them coming

@Ethyria - would you consider making your own thread for Symphony? That way you can add a list of current features, requests and to-do list for the community to see? that would be far more organized and probably get more attention. thank you for your effort.

Probably be good to do that when he releases the Alpha as a first post.

I agree. This addon seems to be getting a fair amount of attention. Definately needs its own thread when you release it.

I agree with JeausOnEez, I have been following this thread since the beginning and I know what it's like to see screenshots and videos promising a tool that will serve a purpose that fills a current void.

To put this in context, when this thread started I was on a completely different career path, in that time I have changed paths learning a coding language from scratch and rose to a point where I could create a tool in this new language to serve purpose I had long needed.

The XBMC/Kodi community has seen rise to a great many developers and I only feel worth to create a thread once I have tangible proof of my efforts. Hence my reasoning getting an alpha out to you ASAP.
