XBMC on the play store
#1
Hi,
maybe my question is stupid. I'm wondering why XBMC is not available for download from the play store.
I'm wondering if I can upload XBMC using my own account (as a free application) putting in the description that it is an unofficial application.
I'm also available if someone from the development team tells me the description to use.
What do you think about?
Thanks
Claudio

Because we don't want it in play store yet and don't want anyone else doing it for us (in any way).
When we feel it is ready we will submit it ourselves

I understand your point.
Because I didn't find information related to this point I've asked.
I hope XBMC will be available asap on the play store.
I use it since I have the original xbox and it is great.
Thanks for you fantastic work.

I understand the reasons listed on Android FAQ but more and more devices run under Android and sometime you can't install apps from APK.

For exemple, a french user have bought a Philips 55PUS8809 but he can't check "Install from unknown sources" so he can't install XBMC.

Maybe that his TV can run XBMC and play HD movies without adding a Raspberry pi or any other device but he will never know Sad

one of the reasons also was that we were renaming to Kodi Wink
obviously we couldn't put that in the FAQ

Times have changed, so it may happen some day

In the meantime, he can install SPMC (https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...erpax.spmc), which is a kind of test drive before we go under the Kodi name.

Unfortunately, this apps can't be installed on this TV because the device is marked as unsupported so the "Install" button is greyed on Google PlayStore Sad

possibly because the app requests touch screen
adding the following line to the manifest would hopefully get rid of this restriction:
<uses-feature android:name="android.hardware.touchscreen" android:required="false"/>

src:
https://developers.google.com/tv/android...idmanifest

but of course change needs to happen on the apk published on the store....

also i doubt if the system you are trying to use allows launcher apps so intents for launcher have to be removed from the apk ( changes on the same file ( manifest)

I hope that Kodi will be available on Google Play Store / Apple Store.

Just for information, our french user of this Philips TV set can now play his videos stored on his NAS by using Plex (stand-alone, no Plex server installed on another PC).

I'm sad to see that Plex is listed and XBMC/KODI is ignored Sad
