Linux Preferred Automatic Library Updater?

Wonder if I can get other people's preferences and / or experiences with these types of add-ons?

I had "watchdog" enabled for a long time. Since updating to Frodo, I noticed the alot of system activity that required python slowed up. Using a couple video add-ons that scrape websites, like TWiT, would take a couple minutes to display the results and start playback. If I use "XBMC Commander" on an iOS device to playback Youtube content, I would get the same huge delay on starting playback.

All made the system unusable.

So not having looked at this type of component in a while, I am at the mercy of the XBMC community. Recommendations please....?
