XBMC is no iOS app - so of course firecore mediaplayer (which is optimized to run on atv2 as "usual" ios app) performs much better. That said - yep its something with XBMC and the fact that its a full blown port of a PC software

I guess it's an memory related issue. I was having the same issues. Starting only with stuttering sound on some files being played, leading even to gui sounds stuttering.
The only thing that helped was rebooting my atv. There seems to be some memory leak that persists after shutting down xbmc.
