I'm trying to cut down the CPU usage some when using Aeon Nox. One thing is it appears to be cycling every background image on the main menu every few seconds. How do I turn this off or slow it down? I've been searching through various settings and can't find anything that seems to control background images.

either select a single background for each item in customizer or delete all images except one from skin.aeon.nox/backgrounds/.../

OK, thanks. I found that setting after a lot of searching, and selected single image for everything. Unfortunately this didn't make an appreciable difference in CPU load, and I can't figure out what other widgets I have running that are causing the load.
I found any interesting problem with the background images on linux. The file browser can't see the hidden directory. So if you browse out of .xbmc when selecting background images so far as I can tell you can never get back there.
