Some movies just won't scrape...
#1
Hey guys!

I've bee toying around with FileBot after having discovered Missing Movie Search. I knew there were a couple of movies that didn't make their way through to the library -- finally I knew what I was up against!

Anyway, there's still a couple of movies I'm hitting brick walls with. Maybe somebody here can help?

One prominent example: George Lucas' seminal "THX 1138". The filename is "THX 1138 (1971).mp4", and it's a DVD-Rip from my collection. No matter what I do, neither IMDb nor TheMovieDB yield anything -- even though the filename is clear, the year of release is correct, and there aren't many similar sounding movie titles the scrapers could get mixed up by.

So, what's going on here? Is maybe "1138" being interpreted as a date? :-)

But that's not the only one: Here are some more examples that should correspond to XBMC's movie naming conventions and be pretty unambiguous on IMDb.
Impostor (2001).mp4
It Might Get Loud (2008).avi
Take This Waltz (2011).avi
The Chronicles of Narnia The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005).mp4

All the files are in one folder, together with about another 500 movies -- that all follow the same naming pattern and get scraped without a hitch.
Any ideas why these mentioned above wouldn't get scraped? (I'm using Frodo on Ubuntu, if that's any help.)

I have no clue why the scraper fails, but what you could do to get them to scrape is try creating an NFO file for these files that has an URL to the correct webpage with information.

NFO_files/movies#Video_.nfo_files_containing_a_URL (wiki)

Sure we are mind readers so that we know what scraper with what settings are you using.

However, odds are high you are using the default themoviedb.org scraper whereas the 'Year' for most of the above movies are not the same as the 'Year' in IMDb what seems to be the basis of your file naming.

Thanks, that's a nice workaround -- I'll probably end up using this for the ones that just won't work! ;-)

You are? :-)
Well, I didn't specify anything because I didn't touch anything: I'm using default settings with all scrapers.

Hm. Well, while you are right about that for Impostor, It Might Get Loud and Take This Waltz, -- and that might very well be the reason for the scraper not finding it (I'll make sure to check that out!) -- that's not the case for THX 1138 or Narnia. See for yourself:

THX 1138 -> IMDb
THX 1138 -> TheMovieDB
Both 1971.

Narnia -> IMDb
Narnia -> TheMovieDB
Both 2005.

(What I did notice: Searching for "THX 1138" on TheMovieDB-website yields, surprisingly, no results whatsoever. Had to go the detour through George Lucas to find it…)

Hi,
I have found that the Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe scrapes fine on the TMDb if you use:

The.Lion.the.Witch.and.the.Wardrobe.2005.mp4

Mine is in a similarly named folder:

The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

And it correctly connects it to "The Chronicles of Narnia Collection" - if you have elected to sort into collections.

I hope that helps!

Thanks for the info: Only issue being that the movie *isn't* called "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" but "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". Why would I want to have name the file incorrectly? :-(

I have this problem too with some movies, and it doesn't seem to matter what I do to fix it. Are some movies scrapped by hash tags?

Oh good, I won't have to start a new thread:

I've found that X-rated movies will never scrape! This is due to IMDB's policy of not serving search results for porn. If you have the TT id number, you can simply type it into the URL, and presto-porno: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2103240

Oh, I'm an old hat now at creating an .nfo file and downloading some pictures to my library folder, but ...

Wouldn't it be nice if some enterprising developer added a new behavior to the refresh dialog, such that I could be prompted to enter that TT id number, and the scraper would load info based on it? Smile

Should I write up a request on TRAC?

Can someone help me out. I upgraded to v15 and also reconfigured my Raid. I had to relink the movie folder and rescrape my movies, now about a dozen movies that had info before won't scrape.

Movies such as The Godfather and E.T., I've tried re-entering the info different ways but no luck.

Anyone else have this issue? Thanks in advance.

E.T was a pain in the ass for me to scrape, but eventually got it to work.

You need to rename to:

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

(exactly as above)

I am still having problems with:
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Shorts (2009)
The Karate Kid (2010)
Diary Of a Wimpy Kid
