Which remote or device to turn on/off and control all these devices?
#1
So this is what I would like to turn on/off and control:

- Yamaha AV Receiver (No ethernet)
- LED LG 47LM7600 (Ethernet)
- HTPC running Windows 8 and XBMC
- TV Cable DVR box (HDMI Input)

Right now I'm using:

- the AV receiver remote to turn it on, handle volume and change HDMI input...
- The LG Magic remote to turn the TV on...
- The iPhone / XBOX Controller to control the HTPC...
- The iPhone to control TV menu when not using the LG Magic remote
- The TV Cable provider remote to change channels when watching TV

So it's a nightmare... can I replace all that using a single remote device?

Sure.. you could use a harmony or other similar remotes from philips or one for all

I think Philips remotes tend to have lower latency than those of Logitech...

Use your Yamaha remote.

1) Enter codes into your Yamaha remote for your LG TV. There are a few to try.
2) Enter codes into your Yamaha remote for your Cable box (hope they exist)

3) Buy a FLIRC, plug it into your HTPC.
3a) Connect your HTPC to the Yamaha using the DVD input
3b) Enter codes into your Yamaha remote for a "Sony DVD" player, or something else fairly generic
3c) Teach FLIRC to respond to the "Sony DVD" remote to get full XBMC control.

When you switch inputs from Cable to DVD the remote will also switch so that the correct codes are sent.

I have done this, and it works fairly well. Flirc is a great project too.

If you can't get 1 and 2 working, then dont bother with 3. Get an MCE remote.

Any (learning) universal remote will solve your problems.

I used to use a sony rm-vl600. Worked pretty well with the macros.

Now I have the Harmony 700, it works even better, because it remembers on/off state of devices.

With the Sony remote I had to have separate macros for everything, and I had to first turn everything off before switching to a different activity due to lack of discrete codes for some of the devices.

The harmony knows which devices are on/off and which ones need to be on for each activity so it only sends the on/off commands when needed.

By the way, do the Phillips remotes remember on/off state?
