INSTALLING OPENELEC TO SD CARD
#1
Hi all,

have been trying to load OpenELEC to an SD card in order to use it to boot the Raspberry Pi I have recently purchased. Issue is, I have come across a number of problems that I cannot seem to be able to get around, and hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction and show me the error of my ways.

Ok, firstly I attempted to install OpenELEC onto the SD card using Linux (ASUS EEE PC 701 SDX OS Xandros?). Number of issues here. Firstly, there was not enough space on the machine to download the required software, so I downloaded it on a windows machine, extracted the files onto a mem stick and used the mem stick on the ASUS. First question; Is this kosher?

I then followed the instructions at http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=...spberry_Pi , and was able to navigate to the downloaded folder, however when I then tried to excecute the sudo ./create_sd card I kept on receiving the error, "command not found". I could not, and still cannot get past this on the ASUS.

I then tried to install the info onto the SD card in windows. Followed the instructions posted here http://squirrelhosting.co.uk/hosting-blo...o.php?id=9 . First issue was that when I tried to load the image, there was no image in the original downloaded zip file and subsequently extracted folder. I then downloaded another folder that contained an image file and completed the task using that info, with everything seeming to work. When I removed the SD card from the windows machine and then replaced it, however, I received a pop up window saying that the SD card was unformatted, and requested whether or not I wanted to proceed with a format.

Questions that fall out of this are: 1. Am I using the right downloaded files? 2 Does the downloaded file that is used with Linux not hold a .img file, or does it and I just can't see it in windows. 3. Why does the original download folder include a number of files and folders while the second downloaded .img download only contain the img file itself? 4. Is the SD card now loaded, and I am receiving the "unformatted" window only because it is not recognised by windows (it being install for Raspberry Pi) or have I stuffed up that install?

Sorry for the heap of noob questions, but as you can probably appreciate, this is driving me nuts and any info/advice would be greatly appreciated and recieved!
