Smart Playlist Issue
#1
Hi everyone,

I saw a post similar to this issue when I first encountered it, but I can't find it anymore. Here's my issue: I currently have two smart playlists, one for recorded shows, and one for my dvd collection. My problem is that full series will show up in one or the other, rather than splitting. For instance, I have season 1 of Castle on DVD, but it is also currently airing season 5 which I am recording. Because these are recorded, Season 5 should show up in my 'Recordings' playlist, but Season 1 should show up in my 'TV Shows' playlist. The show series screen for recordings shows the correct count (I currently have 2 episodes recorded and un-watched) but as soon as I enter the show, seasons 1 shows up along with the currently airing season 5.

For a more visual reference this is what I am seeing:

Home Screen - Recorded Shows
  • Archer (3 epsides, 1 watched)
  • Other Show
  • Castle (2 Episodes, 0 watched) <- The count is correct
    • Season 1 <- Supposed to only show up in TV Shows Playlist
    • Season 5
  • Other Show
  • Other Show
Home Screen - TV Shows
  • Other Shows
  • Castle
    • Season 1
    • Season 5 <- Supposed to only show up in Recordings Playlist
  • Other Shows
  • Other Shows

Hopefully this is just an error in my playlist I set up and you guys can spot it right away. Here is my NAS configuration:

smb://NAS/Disk1/TV Shows/Castle
smb://NAS/Disk1/TV Shows/<...Some Other Shows...>
smb://NAS/Disk2/Recordings/Castle
smb://NAS/Disk2/Recordings/<...Some Shows...>

So naturally I have my playlist set up as:

Recordings: Path Starts with smb://NAS//Disk2/Recordings - Matching 1 or more of the rules (Only the one rule)
TV Shows: Path Starts with smb//NAS/Disk1 - Matching 1 or more of the rules (Only the one rule)

Is there some trick to doing this? I'm surprised I haven't seen any other help requests on this... Perhaps I'm searching for the wrong thing?

Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm on Frodo 12.0. I have also tried the latest test version 12.2.

I don't think you can split up a TV show into to 2 areas of recorded vs DVD, you might have a bit of luck with play-lists (but I'm not a specialist so don't expect the code solution from me) You may get further along if you ripped your DVD's as episodes and amalgamated them, at least that's my take on this. It's also possible to have 2 different folders and have a path driven smart playlist.

Hi PatK,

My playlists are path driven. The problem is that while the TV shows themselves show up correctly for both playlists, the seasons/episodes do not. Is there some way to do a playlist with a sub playlist to accomplish this?

Have you tried running your playlists from VIDEOS > Playlists instead of from your homepage shortcuts?
Have you tried changing match from "one or more" to "all" rules?

As I understand (I haven't played with playlists in a while and there has been changes) it is possible to call a playlist result from inside another playlist, but I've seen enough messages about this code to step clear though. From what I've experienced you can not mix TV & Movie playlists unless it's with something like a psuedoTV playlist.

You can NOT use tags and call them within a TV playlist (just checked it's only for movies) but it's possible that tags may be implemented in a future XBMC, I inadvertently assumed they would work for TV as well until I looked.
