Don't know if this helps or not, but when I have issues with mySQL on my Synology, I run a debug file, and usually find that there is a file somewhere on my NAS that is causing issues. You might want to run the debug file, and then look for errors related to your mySQL. Dunno if that will help, but it worked for me.

Thanks - I will try, but what do you mean run a debug file? Is this on MySQL? If so, how do you do this?

I have managed to resolve the issue. I completely uninstalled XBMC, then re-installed and have not had a repeat of the problem.
I did not uninstall MySQL - just XBMC.
Using the HUB wizard, and copying over my existing AdvancedSettings.xml, the whole things took a matter of minutes!
I suspect the issue was down to old plugins, as I had upgraded XBMC a number of times over the years before adding the SQL db. I guess I should have performed a fresh install of XBMC prior to adding the SQL db.

Anyway - I hope this helps some others.
