I currently have two tv shows folders scraped (normal and kids) and two movie folders(normal and kids)

These are split up via smartplaylists, I would love to however, get the recommended/featured section only to display normal tv shows and normal movies not the kids ones, the same goes for the latest widgets on the home screen.

ANy ideas if it is possible?

I don't use recommended/featured, but I'll assume that the video found here will address your issue as well.
