ratDVD support (with or without menus)

Lightbulb
hi all,

i know the xbox doesn't have what it needs to decode ratdvd's on the fly, that's why i was thinking i could use some other pc to do that for us and stream the content towards xbmc ...   Huh

is that possible ?  and if yes : how ?
any other suggestions in this area ?

will there still be a possibility to access the dvd-menus and stuff ?

how can ratdvd selection (choose a dvd from a list of ratdvd containers) itself be automated (start decoding on other decoding pc) ?

kind regards,

plato. :joker:

Hi,

this questions was asked severall times, but answers were all different.
Are there plans on getting ratdvd files to work with XBMC?

Here's what I got from the ratdvd website:

Quote:How about XBOX. Do you consider porting it?

Absolutely YES. I own an XBOX myself and use XBMC but unfortunately I have no idea how to do it and I have big concerns that the hardware of the XBOX is too slow. XBOX 360 four sure would be a target. We will see.

I think this is the last "Big" file format which XBMC can't playback, and I knwo there are some people out there waiting for such support.

Thanks in advance,
derchris

I remember reading years ago when it was 1st discussed that the author mentioned he wanted to port it, but the xbox hardware just wasn't powerfull enough to properly play his format.

Not from Team-XBMC, no. The author of ratDVD might have had plans for it when he created RatDVD, but as far as I know the RatDVD project was abandonded (no longer being developed as RatDVD) a while back and the author went on to to make FluxDVD which is a commecial version that replaced RatDVD.

In either case, both RatDVD and FluxDVD are both closed source and proprietary = bad.

Open Source and Creative Commons = good.

In any case, if you wanted RatDVD or FluxDVD support in XBMC then you would first have to lobby the FFmpeg developers to reverse-engineer a decoder to the proprietary video and audio codecs that those forums uses (since they are not open source), see:

Again, closed source and proprietary formats are bad, mmmmkey
