Graphics Card

Hi ,

First time poster so please be gentle….
I am turning my Old Dell inspiron 546 into a HTPC. (Please don’t laugh)

It has AMD 64x2 DC 5400+ 2.8ghz.
3gb ram.
And ATI Radeon HD 3400 card.

So far I have had mixed results, the picture quality on my Sony Bravia TV look great with true HD mkvs, but with some of the sd rips the picture quality is far lower than my Xtreamer MK1.
Also whilst watching every now and then a small part will go pixelated and come back to normal again.
Will changing my Graphics card help, been looking at a Nvidia GT610 with 1gb Huh
Thanks in advance

Too late, I went and got one (GT610) surely it can only be better than what I already had.

I can't say for windows but if you use Linux that card will help allot.

Thanks for the reply, I am currently using window 7 home premium. But only as that was on the system before. I really want to end up with it booting straight up to xbmc so will look at Linux but I have never used it before so not really sure where to begin. Wanted to make sure my system would run everything first

Check out Openelec if you are just using your HTPC as an XBMC appliance only.
