As it looks and sounds as if Fengtao based all their DVDFab media players on XBMC so GPL should still apply?

Quote:DVDFab Media Player can play Blu-ray disc 60 days for free, and can play Blu-ray iso/folder and media files free forever.

Please try it if you want a simple, fast and always working solution for Blu-ray playback.

DVDFab Media Player is based on a great open source project XBMC, please visit XMBC at http://xbmc.org.

Best Regards,
Fengtao
hmm, now with this news I really wonder if VidOn.Me XBMC builds and DVDFab Media Player are both XBMC based products from Fengtao Software Inc.

I have got VidOn_XBMC-v1009.apk working on my cubietruck.

It crashes because it has not enough permissions:
Code:
E/SurfaceFlinger( 1328): Permission Denial: can't access SurfaceFlinger pid=19430, uid=10059

I have removed the permission check in frameworks/native/services/surfaceflinger/SurfaceFlinger.cpp

Now it runs with hardware acceleration, but the video playback is much too fast and I am getting
Code:
W/hwcomposer( 1350): Thread sync error:src[0,0,1536,1080],hwlayer.sourceCrop[0,0,1920,1080];
in the logs.
So there is still something wrong...

Here is a download link to the recompiled libsurfaceflinger.so.

It should go to /system/lib

This file was build using the cubietruck sdk for android 4.2.2 - it you have a different device it might not work, but give it a try.

Hello,

As an owner of a A20-based device (Mele M6) I'm very interested by the progress made in this thread.

I tried all the VidOn packages I could find (up to 1.0.11), no luck - none worked. All constantly crashed when trying to play a video. I wish I could use the internal XBMC player, instead of relying on an external one: mounting NFS shares is a bit complicated on this device (no native kernel support), and there's no easy way to get subtitles on movies.

Following the thread Smile

I've noticed that 3 days ago vidon.me updated their github, probably because of gotham release. I don't know if this means that they have actually updated their repository with code that could be useful for allwinner devices.
Edit :
I'm sorry the github page reported that the xbmc repo where it was forked from was updated, and not the vidon.me repo. So sorry for my confusion

As it have already pointed in these other related threads, see http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=148320 and http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=180251

VidOn.me did not yet post all the full source code with of all their code modification and updated changes.

As long as they haven't done this then VidOn.me is still violating XBMC's GPL license by not releasing all its changed code though, they have been ignoring complaints and instead basically trying to fool people into thinking that you comply with the GPL by releasing old versions or only parts of their source code changes.

I read that they been warned to stop leeching and we should be surprised if VidOn.me do not soon end up on XBMC's known list of GPL violators http://xbmc.org/known-list-of-gpl-violators/ unless the post all their up-to-date code changes, and continue to share all up-to-date code changes that make in the future as well.

Without that updated code then the whole XBMC community will not benefit from the old and parts of the code that VidOn.me have posted, which goes against the main concept and spirit of the GPL license, which is to cooperate and share so that everyone who contributes will benefit.

All users and companies that utilize XBMC would benefit if the code for Allwinner A10/A20 hardware accelerated video decoding made it XBMC's master repo.

VidOn.Me just pushed a ton of stuff to their github account yesterday and the devs are looking at it. So far so good, but I don't know how far they are in checking, as people are doing this in their spare time, and I hear the code they posted is kind of messy. It sounds like the A10/A20 decoding "stuff" is there.

This is exciting news Ned. very exciting. is there any update? Whats the verdict from the devs?

The basic verdict is that no core XBMC dev has the desire to take up the task of porting the vidon.me code to XBMC.
A10/A20 being already quite outdated SoC's, it's just not worth it.
