Is it possible to make to so the remote just accesses the xbmc and nothing else?
For example:
I'm on the internet on one monitor and i hit pause on my remote and the XBMC pauses? Without me needing to bring the xbmc to focus?

assuming you on windows and using a WMC remote?
any remote that uses json or direct access (any android/iOS/etc remote designed for xbmc) will work as you describe. but i think your using a WMC remote, which only sends signals to the current window in windows. there are 2 options.. use a phone/other device. or use something like eventghost with the xbmc plugin, and this will forward your remote commands to the xbmc window.
