Getting ubuntu screen res correct
#1
Hi

Some where in the forum is a post on getting the screen resolution correct for the ubuntu desk top underneath XBMC. I have searched but can't find it. If any one has it bookmarked could you post it hear. My desktop is way out with lots of underscan.

Thanks

/var/log/Xorg.0.log is the file you need to look at. Post it to pastebin.

That's Xorg.0.log

However be careful as I'm afraid there might be two issues in the log. I have just started using a Yamaha receiver RX-V573 and it occasionally changes the screen resolution of XBMC to 720. A reboot of the machine resets XBMC to 1080. This is new and has nothing to do with ubuntu desktop being under-scanned.

That's a log were it came up in 720 due to the receiver and a reboot fixed it.

Actually, I have just found AMD catalyst in XBMCubuntu and the res is set smaller than the screen size. So that's the problem. However I can't get Catalyst to start in super user mode. On installation I setup 1 user and password. Clearly I need to log in to X as rootHuh?

Never log in to X as root.

I assume you are talking about the amdcccle control program. If so run it via gksudo, as in
Code:
gksudo amdcccle
