Linux Low-res HDMI with laptop - XBMCbuntu
#1
Question
I have an old-ish laptop with a 1366x768 res screen. I want to use it as an HTPC (it has HDMI out) and so I installed XBMCbuntu. However, the HDMI output is limited to 1360x768 on boot, I can manually change it to 1366, but if I change it to 1920x1080 (my TV's res) it glitches, and XBMC is only shown on the top half of the TV.

If I exit XBMC (logout) and go into the XBMCbuntu session, I can turn off the laptop screen and set the TV to 1080p, but when I logout (to get to XBMC) the logon screen is shown on the laptop screen and the TV as 1360x768 and XBMC is as well. If I open xrandr in SSH (or another session or ctrl alt f-) it says cannot open display.

I want to be able to display XBMC in 1920x1080 on the TV, and it doesn't matter if the laptop screen is disabled or not, I won't be looking at it anyway.

When using xrandr via terminal / ssh you need to set the display environment variable

DISPLAY=:0 xrandr blah blah blah

As for setting that on boot you probably need to create a xorg.conf
