My suggestion for a new subforum, which would be part of the hardware forum, would be a place where people could show off their hardware build including specs and build pictures. This could serve as inspiration and people could ask questions about that specific build.
Good idea?

Not a bad idea. Long term, there have been ideas thrown around about having XBMC.org have more interactive content and allowing users to have their own little userspaces, but that's probably a long way off. Having a dedicated subforum, where each thread is about one setup, could be very useful.

It could be called something like:
Home Cinema Showroom
or
XBMC Showcase
