I have an Apple TV 2 running XBMC and have a NFS server to play movies from my PC. I have a simple (lol) 300 GB Buffalo External Hard Drive hooked up via the USB port. Unfortunately I still get buffering issues with MKV movies. Either I have done something wrong in the settings or I need a faster Hard Drive that can process movies faster.

What kind of external HD would you recommend?

Or is there a simple fix in the settings somewhere?

I doubt it's the drive speed. Even pokey USB 2 is fast enough for BR rips. I would try to troubleshoot the network before investing in a new drive.

I also doubt it has anything to do with USB.. Before I built my server, I used USB2.0 with 5400rpm drives and they always went fine. Maybe it's the ATV2?
