ATV2 crash when playing some 720P mkv video
#1
Dears, I've just make a clean Frodo install on my ATV2, running
XBMC (13.0-ALPHA6 Git:20130714-c218d5c),
Platform: Darwin iOS (11.0.0, Version 5.1.1 (Build 9B206f)).

When I can play some 720 mkv video files, it always crashed for Low Memory reason. These same mkv files plays OK on my Win7/Notbook and the New iPad runnning XBMC 12.2 , so it doesn't seems to be a problem with the video format.

I already tried with all the known suspects (disable airplay, thumbs generation, etc.) and restore IOS / re-jailbreak in order to install a refresh clean environment.

I tried almost all method to test but the files always result in crashing XBMC. And also borrow other ATV2 to test and the same. Please help me any suggestion and thanks.

This video file which crashed is AC-3 audio and not 5.1 DTS such as below:

Sorry mixed up some logs Wink Anyway, try to enable "pass through" by selecting "i have a ac3 capable reciver" and try again. Downsampling the 5.1 to stereo is hard work for the atv2

Setting found here :
Go into XBMC -> Settings -> System -> Audio output ->

I have tried that but it happended the sluttering voice.
But I found that the crash maybe resulted from the AC3 audio format and the Traditional Chinese subtitle.
When I play the AC3 720P mkv video without subtitle or with English subtitle, it was always OK.
And I tried to play the DTS 720P mkv video or SD video with Traditional Chinese subtitle, it was also fine.
But when I played AC3 720P mkv video with Traditional Chinese sutitle, it was always crashed after 3~5 minutes and return to main menu. It is so strange.
Did you have any comment or suggestionHuh
Thanks

Hi, I have exactly the same problem.

XBMC crashes every 5 or 10 minutes with Simplified Chinese subtitle on. With English or no subtitle, everything is fine.

This is more or less an known issue. Simplified Chinese subs use to much cpu power as they are not drawn the same way or something. There has been some thread about this, but im in a bit of a hurry so i don't have time to search them up right nowWink

updates: it cause less crash than before. but after few time test, it still crash every 20 mins. so the problem doesn't goes away by upgrade to monthly built that simple.

hi everyone,

I might have some good news here. after i upgrade the XBMC to latest monthly built, the problem of cashing seems stopped.

(I had one video file with subtitle that always crash, same file, same subtitle, but now it just play back fine. )

here is what i had done so far.

1.backup the XBMC USERDATA FOLDER.
iOS /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/XBMC/userdata/

2.To revert back to the stable version
Here see REF
ssh [email protected]

echo "deb http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2 ./" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xbmc.list

apt-get remove org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2

apt-get update

apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2

reboot
3.install the monthly built.(13 Alpha 8 September 2013)
from http://mirrors.xbmc.org/snapshots/darwin...os-arm.deb
REF : HERE
follow the instruction here: Click

and everythig shall keeps the same, and seems somehow the bugs in the 12.2 version get removed from the lasted beta.

enjoy the movie!

just in case someone want to roll back to XBMC V11 Eden

here what I had done.

Use the same as upgrade to nightly built method here, and use the following .Deb for the downloaded file part to install the ATV2 version of Eden

Code:
http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2/deb/org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2_11.0-4_iphoneos-arm.deb

After roll back to Version V11 ,Everything go back to normal. I had done the same test again. the same video and subtitle, runs from beginning to finish. no crash at all.

Hi,
I also revert back to V11 Eden before. But some plugin addon of new version such as icefilms can not work in V11.
So I bear this and use monthly builds of Frodo version.
Have anybody test this problem in new release 12.3 ?? Is it OK Huh
Thanks
