Testing audio engine ActiveAE
Logfile Please. I log the channels that are requested now - so we can easily see what is happening. I think that issue will give a nice discussion, as the mapping is done according to a wide channel layout. At least you now have output on all speakers, hehe and yeah you know how AAC *ucks* up general channel meaning.

Last night I wanted to enjoy DTS-HD MA with The Hobbit but had drop outs and glitches.
This morning I played the movie again, but this time with debugging enabled.
It had been 20mins so far and no dropouts or glitches whatsoever.

Weird huh? Well there was something strange meanwhile.. Sometimes when I go into Settings/System/Video the GUI shows empty video settings and asks me to save it.
I have to say no 3 times before my 1080p/23.97 settings are back. When I went into system settings to enable debug logging I also crossed the video screen and experienced this same weird bug.

So I didn't have debug logging enabled while I experienced the glitches, but you can see the system giving the GUI YES/NO popup and then playing back perfectly...

The first one:

Disable VAAPI. You have an nvidia card, opening VAAPI must fail. For the second things: Your mysql server is down and spams the logs. Fourth: Curl is spamming the logs, too - as it cannot connect to the internet.

Best is: Start with a fresh profile and test a local file.

Edit: Besides that, I see Underruns in the sink. I am not sure which PRs are in this OE build. We had some newer code, that went in yesterday. Here is an inofficial testbuild for you to try out: http://hwat.be/openelec/nightly/OpenELEC...r16547.tar

Here you go :-)
I won't be able to test anything till thursday.

Oki, we thought again a bit over it, current PR is here: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/3838

Basically I removed it from the Sink to handle it especially before building channel map. Btw. which Encoder do you use to produce the 7.1 AAC files?

Posting here on request from one of the Devs [Original Post and responses].

The issue: Video stuttering when watching movies with a mono PCM track. Issue video documented here:

System: Bootcamped 2012 Mac Mini on Windows 7
XBMC version: 12.1 Frodo
Log: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=98089

Log with trial of the Gotham nightly: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=98115

Thanks to HD Life and jjd-uk for their help till now.

this is no issue of audio engine. dts of audio stream jumping backwards and dvdplayer tried to correct this. not sure why dts jumps back.

FernetMenta, where does the DTS come in? The file The Gold Rush (1942).mkv reports audio track as:

Audio: pcm_s24le, 48000 Hz, 1 channels, s32, 1152 kb/s (default)

From what sarvajanik has described it's only files with mono LPCM like this that have problems.

If you look at the Youtube video it shows DTS-HD MA playing back fine.
Reply
Hold on did you mean pts?
Reply
pts, dts is the same for audio. looks like there is an offset of the audio track to video in this file which is approx. 200ms.
Reply
The user reported the mono LPCM files play fine in VLC which is why I thought it might be the audio.

sarvajanik, how are you creating these mkv's files? specifically the one's containing the mono tracks, is there any difference in how these mkv's have been created?
Reply
I use MakeMKV to create my backups. No conversions involved in any the process. The formats are as is on disc.

The problem does seem to appear only during Mono LPCM files. In the YouTube video, I've even played a 5.1 LPCM file (Troy) and it works fine.
Reply
1 difference I noticed (and I ain't really techy) is that the Mono LPCM files are 24-bit. Where as the 5.1 LPCM file was 16-bit. Again, not sure if this is of relevance - but thought I'd mention it.

Of course there is a conversion. The tool rips the data from its original container and builds a mkv. Something must go wrong during this process. When reading the file we get a video packet with a timecode, then we get an audio packet with a timecode 200ms earlier.

Ah! Well, I meant no transcoding. (Sorry if I used the wrong term. Shows how techy I am!) I hope transcoding is the right term here. Smile

But then how come it's working fine in VLC?
