I am relatively new to xbmc and I have it running on quite a few devices successfully. On my desktop running windows 7 ultimate it keeps crashing to black screen and I am unsure how to solve the problem. I downgraded to an older version, and installed more memory thinking it was related to a low memory issue but does not seem the case. Any help would be greatly appreciated !

Just based on the info you've given, there might be some corruption in some of the files... downgrading is kind of unofficial and usually not successful. I'd recommend a complete entire deletion and re-install. If you have exported your meta-data to separate files and have your media in their own individual folders, a re-scrape should be local and fast.

Windows 7 XBMC install delete

1) remove or rename C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC
2) remove or rename C:\Users\Your_User_Name\AppData\Roaming\XBMC

ensure your windows install is complete and functioning well.

Grab the latest stable ver of Frodo and install.
Configure your sources and scraper setttings and re-scrape.

Launch XBMC report back to this thread on the outcome.
