To run this on the Server PC does the WMC app built in with Windows 7 have to be active? I've disabled it on all PC's due to only using xbmc.
Should it be re-enabled on the server PC before running your setup?

WMC needs to be installed. However the WMC interface itself does not need to be running.

I want to add to this answer because it is important (and this is a new thread and all). Not only does wmc need to be installed, but it needs to be configured (tuners discovered, drivers loaded, channels set up, etc). My server program needs to get all this setup info from the wmc database.

Fair enough. Looks like I have a weekend project.
One question, if this isn't working for me, will I be able to go back to my previous pvr backend without having to do a complete setup again?

I have my channel logos addon on my MCE and it seems the server pulled it in on my windows XMBC clients. But it does not seem to work for my Linux clients...

That's pretty sweet.

So to get this setup you're telling me I have to actually go through setting up WMC first and once I get everything setup there it'll tranfer to xbmc once I setup the wmc pvr backend?

How are the details of your EPG when you look at movie or tv show info?

Yes you need to setup MCE first. I have played with all the PVR addons this is by far the easiest at least for a windows mce guy. It pulls all info in your current MCE guide and recorded items.

krustyreturns,

is it possible for the channel numbering to match what is currently in MCE? my kids think of channels in terms of numbers and I just want the transition as easy as possible.

Thanks

Thanks Eje

What's the time on channel changing for you, 3 - 5 seconds?

You should have. Please send me a server log. Another thing to check is the server software creates a disposable and hidden directory in your recorded tv folder called 'tempxbmc'. In this folder is an image cache that should contain the channel icons it found.

No its much slower. There is still work to do.

Krusty, one question. With WMC active, how do you stop it from launching when using the greenbutton to launch xbmc?

The channel numbers should be the same as wmc, are they not? Unless you are referring to the numbering that xbmc puts in the corner of the channel display, I don't think I can change that. You can suppress the call sign completely using the server display settings and just have the numbers displayed if you want.

I currently use that but will it also launch WMC?

Sorry, I don't currently do this. I have my harmony remote configured so that this doesn't happen i.e. I don't launch xbmc with the green button. There ways to hook out this green button behavior that I have played with in other stuff I have written, but its not implemented (so far) in this.

I have never done it, but there should be no issues with going back to your original pvr. Just don't have more than one pvr client enabled at a time. You might also need to reset the pvr database in between trying them.

OK, that all make sense. I'll start working on this project this weekend.

By the way Krusty thankns for this project, WMC was a solid app for media, the tv guide info is what I'm most interested in.

I just re-enabled WMC and restarted computer. Still works!

I think the registry changes (or autohotkey) change the command the computer receives (interprets) from the green button.

Krusty, first, thanks for this. I never thought the other thread was serious because every post I read seemed to be on a different topic.

As for the slow channel changes... have you (or anyone) tried Margo's build? available here:

http://www.scintilla.utwente.nl/~marcelg...html#frodo

Lastly, for those of us new to the party, could you tell us what your working setup includes? Mostly, what type of TV signal you use. (cablecard, ATSC, NTSC analog...)

Thanks again,

Tommy

The folder is there (although hidden) and there is a cache of images. There is no error in the server log but here it is if it helps: http://xbmclogs.com/show.php?id=45135

Thanks!

Yes, only MPEG4 has the issues. Standard Def channels play without a hitch.

I am really excited by this project - keep up the great work!

I fixed the bug that caused crashes when viewing actively recording files. I just uploaded a new build of the server (1042), when you have time, please see if it solves the problem for you. Thanks for catching this so quickly.

If you can, I will likely need a sample wtv file for the mpeg4 thing, maybe a 5 minute long clip if possible. No rush.
