Fisrt HTPC, too much possibilites...I'm lost
#1
Hello,

I want to build my first HTPC and I'm a bit lost with all the possibilities, I've seen the suggested config here and some nice boxes like the NUC, Zbox and other Lenovo Q190 but I'm unable to tell if they would fit my requirements.

I want to be able to read full HD content (No 3D at the moment but it might come later), but I don't intend to play on this box. Well maybe emulate some NES or Genesis games but that should have no impact.

- I would like to use a SSD 32/64 GB for fast boot, I'll use external NAS and/or USB for storage.
- Blue-ray reader
- Optical audio out to connect to my older sound system
- Remote controlled by Logitech harmony and android/IOS app
- Wake on lan if possible
- Media card reader if possible
- OS: Windows 7 or 8 because of the blue-ray
- Software: XBMC

Budget: Less than 500$, is that possible?

Can you recommend some config or give me some hints on where to start with this?
Thanks!

Yes, it is possible.
It's just that it can all be overwhelming.

and of course, I'm going to offer advice,..not for any one particular system though:
My advice is this,..pick something and either buy it pre-built or build it yourself,....but once you do,...try to shut out any buyer's remorse.
There are so many possibilities,...but generally speaking, once you pick something and use it,...you then begin to enjoy.
