Mini ITX HTPC E-350 AMD

Hi, I'm looking to do my next XBMC build and was looking at a low power option as the TV in the bedroom has a removable panel at the back that a 17cm x 17cm systemboard would fit nicely in. Sort of building the HTPC into the back of the TV. Anyhow I was looking at a Gigabyte E-350 AMD Integrated CPU Motherboard. Not the most powerful thing out there but should be more than up to the job for XBMC.

I have seen mention thou that of XBMCbuntu will not run properly on AMD Systems due to lack of driver support. Has anyone used this type of board with XBMC and if so how did you find it. Or has anyone used a similar type of board with much sucsess.

My only realy criteira is I do not want to be spending loads of cash on as it is a low power option just for watching stuff on XBMC in bed. I want something that will fit in the back of the TV (17cm x 17cm), low power usage as it will most likely run from a pico power supply and low heat. Other than that it will have a small SSD for OS and HDMI to connect to TV.

Thanks in advance for any helpful responses. Big Grin

These days, a Celeron mobile based mini-ITX motherboard is a much better option than the old AMD E-350. It's fully supported in Linux and Windows. The CPU is 2x more powerful and the integrated HD2000 or HD2500 GPU will play 1080p no problem. There are tons of threads here with happy owners.

These are great Celeron motherboards:

Given the mere $5 difference I'd go for the latter.

Many thanks for quick feedback there, I'll have a look at the Celeron's (never been a fan of them in the past), the main difference I was looking at thou is a Celeron is around 50+ watts where the E350 was 18 watts. Even thou a 90 watt Pico should be up to the job.

This isn't correct. Those boards are fitted with the mobile Celeron which has a TDP of 17W.

I did not notice that, thank you for the correction. I had gone off standard Celeron watts and not noticed these were mobile versions.
