WMA/WMV won't play with OpenELEC 3.2.0 (Frodo 12.2)
#1
Hello,

Since upgrading to OpenELEC version 3.2.0 on the Raspberry Pi, I've found that it is now unable to play WMA audio files or WMV video files (yes, I do have the license installed for WMV).

WMA files start to play but then become silent after a couple of seconds.

WMV files similarly start to play then fall silent after a few seconds. The picture freezes not long after that.

I've tried doing a fresh install of OpenELEC 3.2.0 but the problem remains. I also tried the latest development version (OpenELEC-RPi.arm-devel-20130916221039-r15921).

I'm not getting much help in the OpenELEC forums; somebody there reckons it's an XBMC issue.

Has anybody else found a similar problem?

Thanks!
MT

Here's a snipped from my xbmc.log -- there are a couple of error messages that might be relevant (this is when I attempted to play a WMA audio file).

Can you post a sample file (eg on Dropbox) that fails like this?
Ideally cut the file down to e.g. 200MB and confirm it still fails in the same way.

I found a site with many sample wma audio files. As examples, these two files (selected at random) do not play properly in OpenELEC 3.2 (Frodo 12.2) (i.e. will play for half a second before the audio cuts out):

WMA2:
http://download.wavetlan.com/SVV/Media/H...ile(2).wma

WMAv9.2 L2:
http://download.wavetlan.com/SVV/Media/H..._16bit.wma

Here's an example of a small (25 Mb) WMV video file with similar problems:
http://archive.org/download/Windows7Wild...ldlife.wmv
(note that the audio cuts out at at 10 seconds and the video freezes at about 23 seconds).

I've verified that all of the files above play properly on the previous stable release of OpenELEC 3.0.6 which is also Frodo 12.2, I believe. Since it's the same Frodo version, this may not be an OpenELEC issue rather than an XBMC-specific problem?

Thanks!

I just registered to confirm that i have exactly the same issue. First the sound drops, some seconds later the video stops. The WMV file is definitely okay (we played it usually for about 13 hours in a loop). The problem appeared after the update to OpenELEC 3.2.0.

I know it's not Frodo/3.2, but both of these test files play fine with the latest Gotham master so it seems the problem - whatever it is - may already be fixed.

same. Since 3.2.0 update wma files play ~2 seconds then nothing.

I've pushed a fix to frodo_rbp_backports.

Thumbs Up
I just installed the new OpenELEC 3.2.1 (which has the XBMC updates) and WMV/WMA seem to work now. Thanks!

Good to hear. I'm never sure sure when fixes I commit will appear in official builds, but it's good to hear that it has made it.
