Android Audio distortion problem on recent Nightlies only
#1
Music
Hello guys,

I have been testing this audio issue on an Android TV device (USB audio out to DAC box, quad core RK3188 C918) for some weeks.

Some MP3 files (for example the one linked HERE) distort on the beat of the music, regardless of xbmc or Andriod TV or amplifier volume.

When I uninstall the nightly build and reinstall 12.2, there is no audible distortion at all.

When outputting
1/ analogue from the Android TV, there is the same distortion
2/ hdmi audio to my TV I get exactly the same distortion.

This shows it is not the Android TV device, and not the HiFi it is connected to, nor is it limited to the external DAC, internal analog output from Android-TV, HDMI.

Somehow the latest bunch of nighlies have been boosting the audio output so that MP3 files that are already loud will give this sparkly crisp crackly distortion on the beats.

Tx
Mark.

Hi guys,
I think I should find our how to do an official bug report, this isn't a support issue, but is related to something that has changed in xbmc in recent weeks.
I'd love to hear from others who might confirm this issue.

Hello guys,
Sorry for the late response, I seem to have not subscribed myself to this thread!
I have just uploaded a bunch more tracks for you to test, ones that ALL distort on my android TV box...
HERE ARE 7 very different, well known tracks to try

EXCELLENT NEWS! Thanks...

Sorry, I was probably mistaken in thinking that a log would be irrelevant since there was no error, but as it seems to be a known issue already...

Please try this build
http://mirrors.xbmc.org/test-builds/andr...bi-v7a.apk

also since you already have a thread you shouldn't post on github as it will send out a mail to lots of people which we want to avoid

Thanks Martijn.
Yeah, that github is way above my head, I was just offering to help test for them if they need...

I'll report back on this build, cheers!

EXCELLENT!!!
Yep, that works, there is none of that distortion anymore...I noticed when I alt tabbed and xbmc crashed, that it said something about Fusion player... so has this been fixed by using a different audio "player".
I am in wonder at what you guys do, thanks very much.

Martijn,
That build sorts out the distortion problem, and seems to be using audio passthrough, but seems to be starting a new audio issue...
When I use a specific file and try to play Breaking Bad's final episode 16 on that file, no matter which provider I try, there is no production sound, only a very loud static hiss...
This does not happen with the same file on my phone and when I 1/ remove the user folder and 2/ revert to 12.2 the audio problem is not there,
Then I upgraded to this latest build and the problem is gone... so it seems there was some other setting in my userfolder that was OK with previous builds, but showed up with the build you posted.
Thought I should let you know... I don't know if any of that is useful. Let me know if a bug report would be of any use to figure out why the missing sound & hiss happened.
Cheers
Mark

Martijn,
That build sorts out the distortion problem, and seems to be using audio passthrough, but seems to be starting a new audio issue...
When I use Icefilm and try to play Breaking Bad's final episode 16 on Icefilm, no matter which provider I try, there is no production sound, only a very loud static hiss...
This does not happen with the same streams on my phone and when I remove the user folder and revert to 12.2 the audio problem is not there, so it is definitely caused by the latest build posted here.
Thought I should let you know... now Im gonna watch that last episode Sad
