I use arch linux with XBMC 12.2. Most of my media is stored in two external USB2 drives (1.5Tb each).
The drives work fine, I have no problem with them using them from the OS. They go to sleep when inactive but wake up just fine upon use.
But, 2 out of 3 times, when I start XBMC and try to start a video from either drive XBMC just freezes, no error message, nothing. I have to switch to a console and "kill -9" the XBMC process and restart it. After a few tries it works fine.
This doesn't happen with media files stored in the HTPC internal hard drive.
Another weird fact is that I stream files sometimes to another PC in my house (also running XBMC as a client of the HTPC instance) and this doesn't hang either XBMC, even when the drives are asleep. So all seems to point to a UI issue in the HTPC XBMC instance.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
