Have a look at the HiMedia Q5 II (http://www.himediatech.com/article.php?id=74) (http://www.futeko.com/products/MP050.php) box. It supports digital throughput for surround 7.1 which actually works also!
But hardware acceleration to work with XBMC is a requirement, so I cannot use XBMC on this box. I hope it will be supported soon!

That is up to HiSilicon the chipset manufacturer to support libstagefright the Android video hardware acceleration interface.

If they don't support it then there isn't anything XBMC can do.

Interesting box though, very close feature wise to the old Sigma/Realtek players.

I loaded this today, and it does not support XBMC hardware decoding. There is no modified XBMC in the firmware either.

Anyone got a link to one with hareware decoding?

I've got a little solution for the video lagging. I use xbmc that support external browser, so when it play the video, it delivers to HimediaVideoPlayer or you can set even to another player that already installed in your player(ex: MXPlayer). Manual edit the xml file required...

This works to play only local media. It doesn't work over samba. But there is a workaround for this one...

On a side note, anyone figure out how to root this thing? The newer 1.0.3 firmware seems to have broken root

Instruction to root:
1. Download this file to your computer:

2. Connect your Q5-II dgn your router and write down your Q5-II IP address.
3. Connect your computer with the same router.
4. Extract the files from no 1. And run "Q5-II Root.exe"
5. When it prompt "Press any key to continue", just press anykey.
6. Type the IP address that you've wrote in no.2. Then press Enter.
7. Q5-II will automaticly restart and in My Apps there will be SuperSU which means that it already been root.
8. Run SuperSU and when it prompt for update binary, choose Yes.
9. Run application that needs Root access and SuperSU confirmation will be appear.

I hope it works for you too. I also using version 1.03

Thanks. I got the correct root file from another forum a day earlier as well. It has SuperSU too which works correctly...

Now if only I can find a stable version of XBMC that can work with an external media player. The montly build are still unstable for my daily uses.

Just give it a try... don't worry to crash the firmware, it has a reset hole right? You can force it to upgrade firmware from usb using this reset hole button.
as i know, Q10 II and Q5 II, are having the same engine, the difference is only the casing... but i cannot say too much, cause i don't have the Q10 II... Good luck...

Hi people - Newbie here. Has anyone got XBMC to run successfully on the HiMedia Q5 II yet? When I am using XBMC it drops out and takes me back to the HiMedia system which is very frustrating.
