Media Browser - Streaming/Transcoding and managment server for Kodi
#1
Hey guys,
I'm not sure how many of you may have noticed my efforts to drum up support to bring Xbmc and Media Browser closer together:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=173372

We have recently rebuilt our open source media center into a client-server architecture. We have transcoding, metadata management, user profiles, recommendation engines, etc. We have a publicly exposed api that we have used to attract developers for a whole range of platforms:

- Android
- HTML5
- Chromecast
- DLNA
- iPad
- iPhone
- Roku
- Windows Media Center
- Windows 7/8 (Htpc app)
- Windows Phone
- Windows RT
- Media Portal

Top Features

- Web based metadata management
- Stream to any device
- DLNA server
- DLNA Play to other devices
- Parental controls
- Internet channels
- Live TV
- Auto-organize new episode downloads
- Playlists

We also feature out of the box support for Kodi Nfo metadata.

In addition, we have a web-based editing interface that can be used from any HTML5 enabled browser. Screenshots below. Please check it out. I will also be happy to answer any questions you may have.

If this request would be taken by a dev (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=173372) XBMC would finally have a XBMC server alternative with transcoding capabilities and mobile clients.
I know there is Plex with Plexbmc addon but Plex server doesn't have that level of library management. (actors, scene selections, etc...)

But as for now, I still use both environments (MB server + XBMCs on SQL)
Using Trakt plugin in MB and addon in XBMC, all watched states are always synced...

I really feel that combining XBMC with MB3 gives the perfect and complete media solution.

But only for Windows Sad
We need a Linux XBMC-Server, too!

This is already being worked on (dev) (MB server) so it's on the right track...

All you need now is a MediaBrowser3Pass where you charge for updates and new features.

I kid.

This looks like a great idea. I would esp be interested in a linux client port. I'm done with Windows hacks et al.

Plus, this would open up the possibility of working with the new Steam.

Well those are two different things. We are currently working on porting the server to linux.

At the same time, we are actively recruiting developers to build a linux-based client. Work could begin on that immediately whether the linux server is ready or not. We're also recruiting in the raspberry pi community, so if a Pi client would interest you then maybe you could help us by saying some kind words here:

We have a new server release. It brings several new Xbmc metadata management features:

- All xbmc image conventions are now recognized
- Our image saving can be configured to utilize Xbmc conventions rather than traditional Media Browser conventions. Very handy for those who use both Xbmc & MB.

- Our NFO saving plugin has added quite a bit of new fields and has been rigorously tested be several hardcore Xbmc users.

Here is my blog post about the release:

This looks rather interesting, what i would like to know since this seems to be a bit unclear:

- Estimated time for linux-server port ? just any general time frame would be lovley (this year/ next year) you get the point Smile if it were supported i would love to run this from source (aka just pull the git)

- "clients" for this, could i for example use my standard xbmc player? or would i need the one provided on site (not talking about mobile clients/web clients now, just for standard machines)

cheers!
Im gonna keep checking in on this project since i love the idea of a "back end" even though xbmc with mysql works awesome as is!

I'm hoping for the linux server by holiday season.

We actually are working on an xbmc client and have been recruiting help right in this forum:

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=173372&page=9

Also, our website needs updating, but we have a pretty long list of clients now (see the top).

I am using MB Server now for a while and it has been great. It really complements XBMC very well. There are two additional functionalities:

1) Metadata Manager - basically playing the role what EMM and TMM are doing right now. Not only for movies and tvshows, but also for music. Very great and constant development. It offers an XBMC-compatibility that delivers the metadata exactly how we need them for XBMC.

2) MB Server - also has a server functionality, which many of us appreciate. Windows Server is stable and Linux under development. Also, a XBMC add-onis available for full functionality. But even without the add-on, you can still use MB Server to act as metadata manager for XBMC (point 1 above) and in addition stream to your iphone and ipad when away from home.

This development is what Plex should have been. And very strongly working together hand-in-hand with XBMC. While I don't know how much cooperation already exists between XBMC and MBS developers, I would hope it increases for even further development.

For now, I am very happy with this development. Happy to answer any questions that may arise.

I thought I'd let you guys know about our new beta that just went up yesterday. What's new is manual image downloading within the metadata editing area. Now you can hand-pick your images based on how they look, resolution, language, user votes, etc. What's cool about this is that it brings all possible sources together into one interface, such as the movie db, tvdb, fanart, etc. Games are even supported. All image types can be downloaded - poster, backdrop, logo, art, disc, thumb, banner, screenshot, box, cartridge, etc.

This is part of our web client, which works well in any modern html-5 enabled browser, and the layout is responsive allowing it to work well with various screen resolutions and orientations.
