Linux ATI Remote Wonder not working
#1
Hello folks,

I am still tweaking Ubuntu 13.10 with XBMC Frodo 12.x since the Thursday release.
Has anyone been able to get this remote working on Ubuntu later then 10.x?
I can plug it into my other computer with Windoz 7 and it works fine. That tells me this old standby is still working.
I looked all over Google and pretty much get the same lengthy fixes, but apparently I am missing something. I can see the remote as an X10 remote in the below infomation as it should be listed, but it is not working in either Ubuntu or XBMC.
If this remote can not be used in the later versions of Ubuntu after 10.x, can someone suggest a good RF not IR remote.
I have placed the XML listed below back to the original after testing.
Apparently I am still missing something that is not fixing the issue with the remote.
I placed everything in pastebin.com due to not having all the clutter of long listings in the thread. It's bad enough that I have a long list then have someons scrolling for hrs reading the info.
I hope that this will be enough information for anyone that can help.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you & TC

Well...
This has been up for a short time with no responce for a fix to this issue; which leads me to this conclusion, time to purchase a new usable remote for Linux and leave this one for Windoz where it has been working for years.
There apparently is a fix for it, but no one here seems to have any experience with this oldie but Windoz goody.

The X10 does not run with driver ati_remote.
Try this one
Code:
sudo rmmod ati_remote
Then check with lsmod: there should be nothing about ati_remote

Hello Harry
Thanks for the reply.

Yes you are correct about the ati_remote. What I have read it is considered an X-10 remote. Apparently it is listed as a working remote for Linux under a X-10 rf remote driver. Not 100% sure but it may be listed under V4L & V4L2. Even after blacklisting it as a ati_remote and tweaking for hours on end with all the information online, I still ended up with nothing but a remote that works with Windows XP up to Win 8 with some drivers and an easy tweak or two.
I have been to most all the sites, see below search methods. This is the reason I posted here for help. I ran out of ideas and searches. I usually do not like to post any questions until I am out of ideas.
I posted my info to pastebin since I don't like posting long strings of text info in a forum. It keeps things cleaner that way and it does not throw off search engine spidering.

http://pastebin.com/XyH3BYEQ ----> sudo rmmod ati_remote & lsmod
http://pastebin.com/p14uu0tq ----> lsusb & lsusb -v
http://pastebin.com/pXsmgtyM ----> dmesg
http://pastebin.com/bMyxmfA8 ----> sudo lshw

This can also be dropped into Google search in reference to the remote ----> V4L2=! ati remote wonder? or ---->V4L2=! ati remote wonder? Linux?

Google is my friend Smile .........Sometimes

I am curious about getting this remote to work also. If Harry has it working how did he do it? My bet is he has the RW1 or RW2 and not the RW3. The commands that are sent by the RW3 are the same as the 1 but are not correctly interpreted and thus we get no response from linux or lirc.

Ati Remote / X10 Medion working properly in Xubuntu / Ubuntu 13.10 (saucy) and controls VLC.

My settings:

sudo echo "blacklist ati_remote" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
sudo rmmod ati_remote
sudo update-initramfs -u
sudo reboot

Peace

Is that the remote wonder 3? Probably the RW1 and RW2 as those have known to be working and work quite well already..
