instant "Operation timed out"
xbmc-13.0-Gotham_alpha9-x86_64 running on OS X 10.9 Mavericks
Code:

XBMC 12.2 for Windows can add the same SMB share as a source without any trouble.

Why don't you have a look at this thread. Especially the last 2 or 3 pages. It may help you out.

The thread is about Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) being used as an SMB Server.
My problem is XBMC running on OS X Mavericks being unable to connect to a SMB share.

Yes. I understand this. Quite a few solutions are discussed there. Server and client. Just thought some of them might help you as well.

So I have to switch from SMB to NFS?
I was hoping that maybe this SMB problem could be be fixed.

That was one solution. There was also a link to an article which included the unix command to force mavericks to use smb1 which may work. I'm sure at some point Frodo will be updated to be compatible with the new SMB protocols being released by Apple. The Gotham nightly builds are reported to already be compatible, but they're still in beta so likely have other issues.

I solved my problem by changing the value of

[HKeyLocalMachine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\Size]

from 1 to 3 on the Windows 7 samba server.

This solution was accidentally found here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1060307
I hope it helps those who have the same problem.
