6 channel Audio codec for avi

Sad
hi everyone,
i am 'ripping' my dvd onto my lan server as i have a 2.5 year old daughter that tries to put the dvd's into the player by herself, and so i have a few scratched discs.

my dilemma is that when i have ripped them, they are very big (eg 1.5 to 2.5 gb). the video is xvid. i beleive what is using up all the space is that the audio is ac-3 acm (6 channel).

if this is the problem, is there another codec i can use to keep the surround sound through xbmc?

thanks for any help you may provide,
ka hooli

if you ripped the dd 2.0 stream you would get the full 5.1 if you have a prologic ii reciever. the 2.0 stream on the disc should be mixed to work flawlessly to 5.1 comparaible to the dd5.1 track.
