Frodo + OSX 10.6.8 + MySQL = huge update delays??
#1
Hello all,

I am potentially looking for direction here re: MySQL tweaks ?
My combo of XBMC Frodo clients + MySQL has been working very well for a long time.
Not sure if my current challenge is related to the size of our collection or not.
We use MySQL via a QNAP NAS unit and we do not use the MyMusic32 DB at all despite that it exists.
Our focus is on videos.
The MyVideos75 DB has grown to ~56.7MB (43 tables and 536,185 rows).
Initially I thought our issue was due to our wireless bridge so I ran a CAT6 STP line directly to the OSX XBMC system.
No change.
After watching anything, it takes upwards of 2 to 3 minutes before the video is marked as "watched" with a checkmark.
Meanwhile XBMC is locked in limbo until the checkmark appears.
Annoying to say the least.
I have contemplated moving MySQl to another host but am not convinced that will resolve this challenge.
I have searched and applied various MySQL tweaks but nothing seems to assist.

So ... hence my plea to the XBMC Users Group ... and I say .. WTF !?! Smile

Any and all suggestion appreciated.

The Debug Log will likely give indication as to timings. It sounds to me like the issue is something to do with the connection - are you using IP address to reference the database location?
Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first.

Hey JM,

Thanks for chiming in.
Yes, I've always used the IP address versus relying on DNS.
I will dig further into the debug log and get back to you.

Mucho thanko again for all of your efforts !

PS ... I must add though, that if I manually Mark As Watched or Mark As Unwatched, the process only takes 2 or 3 seconds. Odd.

Hello all,

Closure was finally found on this one.
Simply put, after much fussin' around without success, we were eventually motivated to invest the time into swapping out the Mac Mini HTPC in favour of the GBox MX2.
Neither the Pivos XBMC 12.2 (Linux) nor the GBox MX2 XBMC 12.2 (Android) setups exhibit the MySQL access/update delays that the Mac Mini did.
So it was time to turn the Mac Mini back into a "normal" OSX box and sell it off.

Out with the old and in with the new !
