I am not sure if this is the correct place for this, but I wanted to you folks know that someone on craigslist is charging $75 for XBMC.

Here is the ad:

The "store page" offering to sell XBMC:

I also wanted to say thank you to the fine folks that have provided XBMC, I have enjoyed it for some time now. Please keep up the great efforts.

They are not selling XBMC- they sell the installing service!

That's a difference.. :-)

I like that they include a picture of the pirate bay logo AND the words "100% legal."

Also, technically anyone is allowed to sell a GPL 2.0 licensed piece of software. It's one of the more interesting pieces of the rules. They just have to provide the source code, which makes selling the software pointless and stupid.

Nate, thanks for the reply. I was not aware of that GPL license\selling rule.

I just noticed something else funny. It appears they are calling it "NIC NAC" The video on the store page is titled "Short Demo of the NIC NAC".

I am almost tempted call them and ask what their NIC NAC offers that I can not get from XBMC.

Technically I could order a box of 500 Android USB sticks from China (I get them at cost), put a cheap stamp on there called 'TheFucker', install XBMC on Android and stick it in a cheap generic box. Add in a pretty website and a clone of the Wiki and I'd have a winner, actually many people out there do just that.

The cost for me, per unit, is around £25 and I could sell that for 50+. The joy/hate of GPL....

rant /

Edit: I would like to add that his website is horrible, just really horrible.
Please read the online manual (wiki) & FAQ (wiki) before posting.

LOL, so they are taking a raspberry pi loaded with an sd card that has xbmc on it and turning round and selling it as the nic nac for $199 on sale?. SAD! I am ashamed to live in the same state as them.

$200 and it doesn't include a power adapter? That's low.

You can still see the xbmc puzzle piece in one of the backgrounds in the skin too. At least they could have 'nic nac'd that up.
