WTV to x.264 - List in Recordings
#1
I'm looking to convert some of my WTV recordings and cut down on how much storage space they use but I would still like them to show up in the "Recordings" list. Is this possible? Thanks.

you can run something like MCEBuddy to post process the files and transcode them to a smaller format. I think it can run on it's own schedule, or you can use ServerWMC "ExternalAction" to trigger running MCEBuddy whenever a recording completes. Also depending on your location/TV format, you could use a HDHomeRun network tuner that supports inbuilt h264 transcoding, and thus the files will already be in that format.

In terms of showing up in the recordings list, as long as the file is in the WMC recording library or watched folders, ServerWMC will send it to XBMC in the recordings list

But I think it's important that it's in wtv file format otherwise the recorded tv folder watcher we use will ignore it. So if you transcode to something with a smaller files size just write out its package as wtv (I think mcebuddy does this too).

Thanks guys. I've used MCEBuddy before and plan to start using again. Used Handbrake as a test but used MP4 as the output container. Wouldn't show up in the Recording list even though I had it in the correct folder. Using WTV as the container makes sense, didn't see that option in Handbrake. Will give MCEBuddy a go, hopefully it works.

I have an HDHomeRun PRIME. I'm assuming you're referring to the 264 transcoding on the newer OTA units. I don't believe it's an option for mine, unfortunately.

Yes I think from what ive read, only MCEBuddy does the WTV output and I think it may also be a paid "premium" feature... could be wrong though.
