From Subtitles add-on to subtitles service. The no-trouble How-to.

I think he meant he needs help obtaining the actual debug log. To which, I'm not sure, but there should be many ways to obtain the log file somehow.

For example, on Mac, pastebinit can also be installed via Homebrew.
Hi everyone,

I've upgraded yesterday to Openelec 4.0 and didn't have an issue with the subtitles. However, I am now getting a script error when I try to download subtitles from Opensubtitles :

Quote:17:27:29 T:140638737643264 ERROR: GetDirectory - Error getting zip://%2fstorage%2f.xbmc%2fuserdata%2faddon_data%2fservice.subtitles.opensubtitles%2ftemp%2fOpenSubtitles.zip/

I've uninstalled the service/rebooted/reinstalled without any luck. I've tried different tv shows, same issue. I've installed another service for subtitles and it works.

Does anyone have any idea why it's stopped working?

Thanks!

If this is happening only with OpenSubtitles and not others, might want to post about it here http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=183114 (this thread is about upgrading from Frodo to Gotham for subtitles).
I did look at this other thread, but it didn't seem as alive as this one, but thanks, I'll be posting it there.
Here is my debug log. I hope it helps:

Okay, So is that a problem with the subtitle service or what?
As you can no doubt see, it is trying to save the subtitle file to /Volumes/Untitled/Subtitles/

Is there such a directory?

Can the user running xbmc create a file in that directory?

Oh I see. Is there anyway not to use it as a custom subtitle directory?
Edit: never mind, I figured it out. However, can you tell me the different subtitles sources that are available so I can download them manually? I tried to do a force refresh on the subtitles folder, and the other sources still haven't shown up. :-(

I also had empty list issue - downloaded Gotham today and already done force refresh on Settings > Add-Ons > Get Add-Ons, and with "XBMC.org Add-ons" highlighted, which still did not solve the issue for me.

Instead, by accident, I finally had subtitle service show up when doing force fresh in Programs > Get More... > .. > .. > Get Add-Ons, do a force-refresh with context menu up on "XBMC.org Add-Ons". Very weird, because those probably point to the same location but that's how I finally got "Subtitle Services" to show up for me.. *shrugs*

Was going crazy... and your method worked! Really strange though :-D.

Thanks man!

Hi all,
I have a question around how people handle the following - by definition in order to properly scrape movies / tv shows we need to rename files / folders to match generic names (in my case I use a filebot script to do this).

However by very construct the primary signifier of the release type / group is contained within the suffix of the original filename.

When I use one of the subtitle services it just shows on the top of the screen the filename on my NAS and then the various options of subtitles. Clearly if the file has already been renamed as is supposedly required then this set up is far from helpful / intuitive.

So my question is if there are other solutions/tricks around this? For instance wouldn't it be helpful to have a separate file from the video itself that specifies the release type / group name only and then the subtitle service could show this (and even attempt to auto-match first)? Ideally of course all movie files would contain in their header this information directly along with IMDB/TMDB id tag etc!

Thanks for any insight...
filebot can leave the release group name in, and that shouldn't affect scraping.

I have two issues with the current subtitle setup.

1) The "Local Subtitle Available" message is ALWAYS displayed. How can I get it to go away unless I really have a local subtitle?

2) There is no indication at all that something is happening - click on a subtitle provider - nothing happens. Wait, wait, wait - some subtitles pop up, you go to make a selection - suddenly the list changes under you. You make a selection, again there's no response at all until the download completes. This lack of user feedback makes for a very user-unfriendly experience, especially if something is not working because with zero user feedback you just end up waiting and waiting because you don't know if anything is happening or not.
