Win Admin has disabled 3rd party app control in Media Center
#1
Hi - I'm attempting to start ServerWMC and am getting the above app control error. Any idea what needs to be changed and where? Sad

I had previously loaded the client and was referencing the WMC on a different server and all was working well. I wanted to switch to using WMC on the local machine to reduce tuner conflicts as this local machine has its own tuner. So I installed the ServerWMC software and was attempting to start it up to be used within the app in XBMC - but am failing on getting it started.

Thanks for your help!

Sounds like maybe the user you're logged in as has restrictions, you can try right clicking on ServerWMC and run as administrator or giving your login more control.
If I have been of help, please add to my reputation as a way of saying thanks, it's free.

Right. There is only a single user on the PC and it's already the administrator. I also had previously tried to run the .exe as administrator and had the same results. Thanks for the advice.

Wmc itself is working ok on this pc? Is there anything tweaked or non standard about the wmc install? Any addons, tweaks, patches etc? Are the 2 wmc services (Epg and recording services) running?

Yes. The WMC on the local PC is working - EPG, LiveTV, Recording - as it has been for several years. I do not recall ever doing anything special to the WMC install, though it's an old install. I do have an occasional 'unable to display video' that forces me to reboot the PC though. I've been thinking of uninstalling WMC and reinstalling it clean to see if that takes care of it. m --Rick

Even though it is 'several years' old, its still a win 7 machine right?

There maybe a clue in the serverlog. Even though serverwmc is not starting on that machine there should be a log in:
C:\ProgramData\VDsoftware\ServerWMC\ServerWMC.log

it there is, put it in pastebin and post a link here.

EDIT:
I knew I had seen this before, see:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid...pid1538924
for this user it was customized menus in wmc for live-tv.

No wonder it's broken if it's "several years old" I find most of my Windows installs start going south at a year or two but I'm constantly playing with them.

Here's the serverlog - http://pastebin.com/E7Vx9HQi - it really doesn't show much as it appears everything is loaded right until after "StartRecordingLibraryWatcher> recording library watcher started" where a 2 minute gap exists and then it shuts down. Yes, it is Win7, on a small Acer Revo box. I'm searching to find where the config settings are in the Registry to enable the 3rd party app control - no luck so far.

I was thinking of this post:

I had several strips in media centered hidden, and the livetv strip altered in the registry. Returning them to default fixed the issue.

I got it working now.

I did a rebuild of WMC :
Open a command prompt, and run the following command:
%systemroot%\ehome\mcupdate.exe -MediaCenterRecoveryTask
Close command window, and reboot the computer.

Then ServerWMC started up and presented it self for configuration and is now working in XBMC.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction...
