Low cost Linux boxes for XBMC?
#1
These cheap Android boxes like Ouya seem to be a dime a dozen, but I'm surprised that there aren't cheap Linux (Ubuntu) options as well.

Anyone know of a couple off the top of their head?

Thanks

They're exactly the same as the cheap Windows boxes, just put Linux on'em. o.o

First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

If you're in the UK then keep your eye out for the Acer Revo RL80. Celeron 1007U, 2GB RAM, 500GB HD, integrated WiFi (inc 5GHz), Bluetooth, USB3, GigE, and an internal CIR header that allows for IR power on and off with a cheap TSOP receiver. Plays pretty much everything I throw at it (*) from 1080i/p high-nitrate stuff (Blu-ray rips) down.

Ebuyer have had them as low as GBP£99 after cash back (though are currently out of stock). Mine sits running OpenElec and TV Headend (with a Pinnacle PCTV DVB-T2 USB stick in it) and just works (though getting 16-235 levels and decent de-interlacing for 576i and 1080i native interlaced sources took a bit of experimentation)

* with the exception of 38Mbs 1080/50i H264 4:2:2 content - which is quite unusual. (It's used for broadcast satellite backhauls)
