Bought my parents an Onkyo receiver (S3500) for xmas, so they wouldn't have to suffer tinny audio through the TV anymore.

It is connected to a PC (Athlon64 4200+, Nvidia GTS250, 2GB RAM, etc...), running OpenELEC

Connecting PC direct to TV it works fine with all the audio settings like DTS, Dolby, etc.. turned off.

Connecting PC to Receiver to TV. With only LPCM on, you get audio, both GUI and movies, only from the TV.

With DTS or TrueHD on, you get GUI sounds from the TV, but no audio when playing movies.

Audio never comes out from the receivers speakers.

Not sure what other kind of info you guys need. Any ideas on what is going on?

Try reinstalling with the receiver connected and turned on. Adding a new equipment after installation might not always get it recognised after the fact, not familiar with Openelec in any case.

With an Onkyo receiver, ensure HDMI Audio Out is set to "Off". You want the audio path ending at the receiver.
