Try going to:
XBMC -> Settings -> System -> Video output
and make sure it is on "full screen"

Hi Ned, thank you for your answer.
But on my AppleTV it is not possible to switch to "full screen"
When I go to "Video-Hardware" -> "Calibrate" there is a message that ATV runs in 720x480 window mode
but I can´t switch it to 720p :-(
When I re-install XBMC there are the same settings.
Any idea ?

meaby a screen shot of your video settings and atv2 settings, i dont know why but i believe its your atv2 settings

Alternative instructions:
Go to XBMC -> Settings and look for the submenu item "File manager". Select it.
Add a file source and type in "profile://" and hit return so it is added to the list.
Go into this new "profile" folder.
select guisettings.xml and bring up the context menu (long press on "menu") and select delete. Then restart XBMC.
