Don't know about kernel 3.16, I use 3.15.5(had to coment one line for compile) with the Harmony remote. And I do not turning off my htpc, cos it nas and wi-fi.
Yeah, may be it not have the full functions, but I'm glade, that not need to do some usb to com adapter, cos this board don't have rs232.

Just tried with openELEC - according to system output the kernel 3.16.3 is in use (version openElec 4.2.1). The device doesn't even show up in dmesg (not recognized by lirc). Attached is the dmesg output and the output of /proc filesystem for those interested. I just gave up and bought an external usb ir receiver (IR605Q) and connected this internally to my mainboard inside my HTPC chassis.

But with usb-ir you don't have S5 Wakeup?
Have you activated CIR in bios?

Yes... It just worked "fine" under Windows 8.1 (after we all waited an eternity for a driver). The strange thing is: I can turn on my htpc from complete off state via remote. So with the additional usb ir stick I have the best of both worlds.
